What Is EFT Tapping?

July 24, 2025

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT), commonly called tapping, is a somatic therapy technique that combines gentle tapping on specific acupressure points with spoken affirmations. The idea is to calm the nervous system, release emotional blocks, and shift energetic patterns in the body.

One of the leading voices in this space is Brad Yates—a respected practitioner known for his YouTube videos that guide folks through emotional release for everything from anxiety and fear to money blocks and self-worth.

Brad’s approach is simple, intuitive, and deeply compassionate. He often starts by acknowledging whatever pain or struggle you’re facing and then gradually brings in healing affirmations while guiding you to tap on points like:

  • The karate chop (side of the hand)
  • Eyebrow point
  • Side of the eye
  • Under the eye
  • Under the nose
  • Chin
  • Collarbone
  • Under the arm
  • Top of the head

It’s like acupuncture without the needles—and honey, you can do it in your car, your bathroom, or your altar room.

How Does This Tie into Hoodoo?

Now let me say this real clear: Hoodoo is a spirit-led, ancestral-rooted system of power. It teaches us that our healing is sacred, that our body is a vessel of spiritual communication, and that we are never alone.

So what happens when you pair EFT with Hoodoo rootwork?

You get a hybrid healing practice that blends emotional intelligence with ancestral alignment.

Here’s how:

1. Use Tapping with Rootwork Petitions

While you’re tapping, hold or rest your petition paper near your heart. Say your affirmation aloud. For example:
“Even though I’ve been taught money is hard to come by, I deeply and completely love and accept myself. I welcome ease, I welcome abundance, I welcome ancestral blessings.”
Pair this with a mojo bag dressed with cinnamon, high john, and a dollar folded four ways.

2. Dress Your Hands with Oils

Before tapping, rub a small amount of anointing oil on your fingertips. Use oils like Crown of Success, Healing, or Road Opener. Your hands become tools of transformation.

3. Tap While Sitting at Your Altar

Call in your ancestors. Light a white candle. Tap through the EFT points while speaking to your guides. Let your body become the bridge between the old world and the new.

Esther’s Personal Ritual:

“When I was grieving, child, I sat in front of my altar, tears falling like rain. I tapped through my pain while holding my grandmama’s picture. I said, ‘Even though I feel like I’ll never be whole again, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.’ And I could feel her spirit say, ‘That’s right, baby. Keep going.’”

EFT Tapping Is Not a Replacement—It’s a Return

To those raised in communities where therapy was taboo and trauma was normalized, EFT offers a form of accessible, trauma-informed healing. And when paired with Hoodoo, it becomes even more potent—because it reminds us that our emotions aren’t just feelings… they’re frequencies. And frequencies can be shifted.

Start Here: Your First Session

Sit quietly. Light a candle. Say:

“Spirit, guide my hands. Let what I release make room for what I’m ready to receive.”

Begin tapping on the karate chop point and speak this aloud (you can tweak it to your truth):

“Even though I’ve been carrying more than my share, I honor my journey. I am safe now. I am healing. I am powerful. And my ancestors are proud.”

Move through the tapping points slowly. Breathe. Cry if you need to. Smile when it’s over.

Final Word from Esther:

Honey, healing ain’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s the quiet tap of your fingers reminding your soul: You are still here. You are still worthy. And you are still powerful.

Let’s not act like our people haven’t always known how to use the body for healing. EFT just gives us one more tool. And when paired with our sacred Hoodoo? Whew, baby—it’s like a revival from the inside out.
