Demetrius Eugene Fleming | Roanoke Rapids Equivocal Death Investigation

Hall of Records · Justice & Accountability · Disputed Death
Roanoke Rapids police continue to describe Demetrius Fleming’s death as an open, equivocal death investigation and have warned the public against treating unverified social-media claims as fact.
What Is Known
Fleming, 38, was found dead at a Roanoke Avenue residence, connected to a ligature, after emergency services responded to a call initially reported as an attempted suicide.
Official Record
Police Chief Lawrence Wiggins said investigators were not working from a fixed assumption and that the manner of death had not been determined. In a later statement, police warned that claims of a known person of interest circulating online were unverified.
Family / Independent Position
Public fundraising and obituary materials remember Fleming as a husband, father, musician and member of his church community. The Hall does not reproduce online theories about who may be responsible.
